The 2026 FIFA World Cup (Arabic: كأس العالم لكرة القدم ٢٠٢٢, romanized: Kaʾs al-ʿālam li-kurat al-qadam 2026) is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup competition, the quadrennial international men's football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in USA/Canada/Mexico from 21 November to 18 December 2026. This will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world,[1] and it will be the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament was held in South Korea and Japan.[a] In addition, the tournament will be the last to involve 32 teams, with an increase to 48 teams scheduled for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The reigning World Cup champions are France.[2] Due to USA/Canada/Mexico's intense summer heat, this World Cup will be held from late-November to mid-December, making it the first tournament not to be held in May, June, or July; it is to be played in a reduced timeframe of around 28 days

2026 FIFA World Cup Schedule and Group Details
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, often referred to as the USA-Canada-Mexico World Cup, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It will be the largest World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams and a total of 104 matches. The tournament begins on June 11, 2026, and will conclude with the final on July 19, 2026.
The group stage is divided into 12 groups, from Group A to Group L, with four teams in each group. The top two teams from each group will qualify directly for the knockout stage, while the eight best third-placed teams will also advance to the Round of 32. This means that finishing third in the group does not necessarily mean elimination, making the group stage even more competitive.
The opening match will be played between host nation Mexico and South Africa in Mexico City. Canada and the United States will also play their first matches early in the tournament. Since the tournament is spread across multiple North American time zones, fans in Europe and Asia may need to pay close attention to kick-off times, as some matches will take place late at night or in the early morning.
2026 World Cup Group Details

Looking at the draw, many traditional football powerhouses stand out, including Brazil, Germany, France, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, England, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Asian teams such as South Korea, Japan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, and Jordan will also have their chance to compete on the world stage. For fans, the group stage will not only be about whether the favourites can qualify, but also whether smaller or less-fancied teams can create surprises.
The knockout stage will begin with the Round of 32, which is one of the biggest changes in the expanded 2026 format. Compared with previous World Cups, more teams will have a chance to continue beyond the group stage. However, the larger format also means a longer and more demanding tournament. To win the trophy, a team will need more than star players; it will need squad depth, consistency, and the ability to perform under pressure across seven matches.
